Detection Concussions Fast - University of Waterloo

New saliva test gives results right on the sidelines.
HeadFirst Inc., a University of Waterloo startup, has developed a simple saliva test designed to screen for concussions in minutes. By identifying key biomarkers released after brain injury, the test provides fast, objective results anywhere—helping athletes, coaches and healthcare providers make safer decisions and reduce the risks of long-term complications.

October 22, 2025 - From Impact to Insight: A Brain Injury Case Review
Our Chairperson, Linda Lowery, spoke at this event hosted by the Brain Injury Association of Durham. Linda shared her role as a caregiver for a relative who suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury.

August 12, 2025 - P.A.R.T.Y. Program with DRPS Youth in Policing
Our Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Program will be delivered as part of DRPS's Youth in Policing program.


Ongoing Concussion Webinars

The Canadian Concussion Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the Canadian Concussion Centre Webinar Series – Fall 2025.  

The new season began Tuesday, September 16th at 6:00 p.m. (ET) with “Concussion Proofing” presented by Dr. Charles Tator.  

These webinars will occur bi-weekly from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm EST. All webinars will take place over Zoom and the recordings will be posted on YouTube. Register at:

Brain Injury Canada launches Intro to Brain Injury e-course for caregivers

This self-guided course is available to caregivers, including family caregivers, free of charge. It covers an introduction to brain injury from diagnosis to recovery (which is often life-long), and touches on important topics such as the role of caregivers in recovery; tools for managing challenging behaviours for the support and safety of loved ones; strategies for safely supporting additional cognitive, emotional, and physical effects; and the intersectional nature of brain injury, and how identity and society impact health and recovery.

NHL Will Require Helmets for Warmups

​Players taking warmups without a helmet will officially be a thing of the past. 
The NHL is making it mandatory for players who entered the NHL after 2019-20 to wear helmets during warmups. Read more HERE.
